YLC and Project Change Celebrate Budget Victory for Students

YLC and the Project Change Program at the College of San Mateo recently hosted an event to celebrate joint advocacy that has resulted in $15 million in California ongoing state funds to allow expansion of community college programs like Project Change that support post-secondary success of students impacted by the juvenile justice system.  The state funding will support robust model programming at up to 45 community colleges around the state, and YLC is advocating to ensure these new programs are considered as alternatives to youth incarceration and a means to bring youth back to their communities and offer the opportunities they need to succeed  The CA Community College Chancellor’s Office Rising Scholars Network team, the new Office of Youth and Community Rehabilitation, and students and advocates attended the event which included a site-visit of Project Change in anticipation of the funding release.
