South Dakota JDAI Training
YLC Attorneys Sue Burrell, Maria Ramiu and Deborah Escobedo headed to South Dakota to provide a one-and-a-half day training for juvenile facility assessment teams. The training introduces teams composed of community members and subject matter experts to the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) standards for treatment and conditions in juvenile facilities. It also teaches the teams what to look for in doing an assessment and how to move forward in presenting findings and recommending corrective action where it is needed. The training, held in Oacoma, South Dakota, on June 14th and 15th hosted assessment teams from Pennington and Minnehaha Counties, and detention facility administrators from around the state. YLC has been providing facility assessment trainings for the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s JDAI process since 2004, and has served the Foundation as a consulting agency on facility conditions since 1992.
