Rapid Response to Trump's School Discipline Executive Order

A preliminary analysis and summary of the Trump Administration’s April 23rd, 2025, Executive Order on school discipline. The Order’s primary purpose is to discourage districts from addressing racially unequal rates of school discipline. It claims that attempts to address racially unequal outcomes are themselves discriminatory and illegal. However, it does not give any examples of what practices would fall into this category. We believe there will be little to no immediate legal impact of the order, but future actions by the Department of Education will need to be closely monitored.
