L.H. v. Schwarzenegger Task Force Meeting
As co-counsel in L.H. v. Schwarzenegger, we are bringing tegether juvenile defenders from around the state to meet with the defendants to work on policy and procedures. This meeting will take place Friday at 9:30 at DJJ Headquarters, 4241 Williamsbourgh Drive, Suite 209, Sacramento, CA 95823.
The meeting will be chaired by Mike Brady, a Deputy Commissioner, Board of Parole Hearings, CDCR. He has been very involved in the adult Valdivia case and is now leading the efforts to develop policies and procedures in the L.H. v. Schwarzenegger case. Mary Swanson will also be present; she is head of the CalPAP Program out of McGeorge Law School, which has contracted with the State to provide attorney representation of youth in parole revocation proceedings.
Juvenile defenders can use this opportunity to provide input into the development of policies on notice to defender offices or other appointed counsel; coordination with CalPAP; and other issues that arise under paragraph 21 of the injunction. This forum will also give them a chance to ask questions about what will be happening over the next several months of L.H. implementation.
